This is How You Light a Fire Pit
We would like to have fun in the garden, but how do you make a fire in a fire pit? Should you do it a certain way or as you always have? The questions are many, but it is actually quite simple if you follow the instructions.
When acquiring a fire pit, you should consider:
- What materials you use
- How to environmentally light it properly
- The safety around the use of fire pits
All this we will talk more about in the text below, where you can be inspired by the use of fire pits and outdoor fire with firewood in general.
What You Need to Get Started
Obviously, you will need to use some kind of fire bowl or brazier where the firewood can be safely placed. The material it's made of is often steel, iron or aluminum, which can just handle the heat from the beautiful flames.
In addition, you need some "fuel", which in this case is firewood. These must be placed on the fire pit so that flames can form in your new furniture for the outdoor area. You can be assured of beautiful outdoor fires then. However, there is a little more work involved than just lighting a fire in these with a lighter or match.
It is difficult to light large pieces of firewood. Therefore, so-called ignition sticks are used, which are some small dry sticks that respond more easily to fire. These are usually small pieces of wood bought seperately or broken off from bigger logs.
Finally, alcohol lighter tablets or bags are used. These ignite easily and can be used to advantage to get the fire going quickly. A quick ignition is important to create a correct environmentally friendly combustion.
Fire Bowls and Safety
Fire is always dangerous if it is not treated with common sense. Of course, avoid making quick movements near your campfire, and ask the children to play at a distance from the fire.
Of course, it is a good idea to make sure that your fire pit is of good quality, so it takes a lot for it to tip over. Should the damage now occur, have a bucket of water or sand standing next to the fire. This can be helpful in extinguishing the fire if, for example, the firebox is pushed on and overturns.
In addition, always make sure that the conditions are right for an open fire. During summer periods of drought, you should be extra careful, and follow the authorities' recommendations.
Lighting of Firewood in a Fire Pit
There are different methods for lighting firewood. Partly to protect the environment and your neighbors from smoke, but also to create a better combustion. It is important that the fire maintains a high temperature. This ensures, amongst other things, a better combustion. Of course, this requires that you use dry firewood and ignite according to these instructions.
We recommend lighting up according to the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy's environmentally sound instructions. That is, we start by placing the firewood in the bottom of the fire pit. On top are the ignition sticks, which are easier to light than the large pieces of firewood. In between the small sticks, ignition bags or the like are placed, which can quickly start the fire. We recommend using environmentally friendly ignition bags to protect the environment as best as possible. Finally, light the fire with a long lighter or matches for your own safety.
The Steps to Build and Light a Fire are Therefore the Following:
- Fire Bowl or Fire Pit
- Place firewood in the fire bowl
- Place small ignition sticks on top of the firewood
- Place the environmentally friendly ignition cubes or bags in between the ignition sticks
- Ignite the ignition cubes or bags with a long lighter for your own safety
Don't Do the Following:
- Avoid putting too many logs of firewood on at the same time (keep to about 1-2 pieces)
- Do not use wet firewood.
- Do not use lighter fluid.
- Do not put products containing chemicals like milk cartons or other printed products in the fire.
