Installation of a TV over the Bioethanol Fire
Installation of a TV above a bioethanol fire is very popular. Not only will it add a personalised and unique touch to your home, it will also offer the possibility of enjoying the cosy flames while watching the newest episode of your favourite series.
This guide is for people who want to build their own ethanol fireplace and only buy the bioethanol burner. However, the basic principles also apply to other types of bio fires.
To ensure that the fire and heat will not damage the TV, there are some preventive measures you may want to follow. The installation is not always simple. Nevertheless, there are several different solutions and possibilities, but power for the TV is required for all of them.
TV over Your Bioethanol Fireplace - Option #1
Option no. 1 is the most simple.
Here you have a recess in the wall where you place your bioethanol burner.
Under the TV you will then place a shelf that shields the TV from the heat of the bioethanol fireplace. The size of the shelf depends on the distance between the burner and the TV. The formula for this calculation can be seen in the image for solution #1.
The longer the distance is between the burner and TV - the less shelf is needed.
Example of option #1
You have a distance on 1000mm between the burner and the bottom of the TV (y). Then you need a shelf that extends at least 100mm below the TV (x).
TV over Your Bioethanol Fireplace - Option #2
Option no. 2 is very similar to no. 1. But instead of making a shelf under the TV, you can make a recess in the wall where you mount your TV.
Again, the distance between the burner and the bottom of the TV determines how deep the recess must be.
The shorter the distance is between the burner and the TV - the deeper recess is needed.
Example of option no. 2
You have a distance on 900mm between the burner and the bottom of the TV (y). Then you need a recess that provides at least 101mm in front of your TV (x).
TV over Your Bioethanol Fireplace - Option #3
Solution no. 3 should only be used if you have a minimum of 1 metre from the top of the burner to the bottom of the TV.
For this solution, a hot air duct is made inside the wall which carries the hot air behind the TV.
Then you can choose different solutions to get rid of the hot air:
- Pass the hot air into the room above the TV by building a pair of grilles into the walls that connect to the air duct.
- Use the air duct as a regular chimney and vent the excess hot air outside.
It is recommended that the air duct has a minimum depth of 15 cm and if you use a chimney you should use a model Ø150.
TV over Your Bioethanol Fireplace - Option #4
Solution no. 4 is a combination of no. 2 and no. 3. It can be utilised if you want the TV to be closer to the burner.
Therefore, you must construct both a hot air duct as well as a hollow area for the TV.
The depth of the hollow depends on the distance between the burner and the TV. Use the table in picture #4 to calculate the depth.
The air duct should be made in the same way as mentioned in option #3.
TV over Your Bioethanol Fireplace - Option #5
Solution no. 5 for installation of a TV over your bioethanol burner is also a combination of two other options. It aims to move the TV closer to the flame.
This time it is a combination of option no. 1 and no. 3 that allows the TV to hang as far as 60 cm from the burner.
More Options
There are more options for installing a bioethanol fire under the TV than mentioned in the five methods here on this site. However, these five methods should give a good indication of what factors you should pay attention to when installing a TV over an ethanol fire.
The most important thing is to avoid the heat from the ethanol fireplace rising directly into the TV. By taking the safety measures, you will prevent the TV from overheating and eventually breaking.
